Your time is coming

I love stories. I learn through stories. I understand better through stories.  The story below is one of my all time favourite…STAY IN YOUR LANE. FOCUS ON YOU.

“An elephant and a dog became pregnant at the same time. Three months down the line the dog gave birth to six puppies. Six months later the dog was pregnant again and in nine months it gave birth to another dozen puppies. The pattern continued.

On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant questioning, “Are you sure that you are pregnant? We became pregnant on the same date and I have given birth three times to a dozen puppies and they have now grown to become big dogs, yet you are still pregnant. Whats going on?”

The elephant replied, “There is something I want you to understand. What I am carrying is not a puppy but an elephant. I only give birth to one in two years. When my baby hits the ground, the earth feels it. When my baby crosses the road, human beings stop and watch in admiration, what I carry draws attention. So what I’m carrying is mighty and great.”

Don’t lose faith when you see others achieving their success. Don’t be envious of others results. If you haven’t received your success, don’t despair. Say to yourself “My time is coming, and when it hits the surface of the earth, many shall yield in admiration.”

Remain patient and persistent. Trust your journey.

Dear Dad

Hi Dad

Wait. Don’t go. Don’t run. This is not one of my angry letters where I shit on you till I can’t breathe anymore 🙂 Not that I feel sorry for you on those days.

I wondered about you today.

Wondered if you ever have random moments where you think about me

Moments where you think about all the moments we have missed out on

Anyways, I was day dreaming about how if you were around, if you had chosen to stick around

We would have gone on so many daddy – daughter dates

How you would have taught me about man confidence…you know this ease and confidence men walk around with. This assurance that they are right. This ability to leave no room for failure.

I imagine you teaching me about men. How to navigate this relationship thing. Yeah, I still haven’t figured that one out yet J J J

I still don’t know how to braai and I would surely be a braai master by now if you would teach me.

I love running. Road running. Marathon running. For some reason, I don’t think this is something you would enjoy but I do see you running with me one or twice a year just to put a smile on my face.

I sometimes think about the many hilarious stories you would tell me about your childhood or as an adult navigating through this life thing.

Dad, would you come back even if it’s just for a day… for an ice-cream date, a sunset drive while I sip on some Gin and pink Tonic 🙂 and of course a quick stop to dance on the side of the road. Dad, could you get me this green dress I saw at a boutique way above my budget?! Your daughter has a taste for the finer things in life. I don’t know where she got that from.

But if you don’t have a day and can only spare an hour, I would just love to sit and listen to some of your biggest life lessons. To your life stories. I would love to know what you are passionate about. What dreams would you like to awaken and pursue. Oh and I would need you to give me a forehead kiss. Then you could go dad. Go back to your life and I to mine.

This little light of mine

What I know for sure is that the day you first came home was the day my life would be forever changed. You were so cute and tiny and before I knew it, you had grown to become one loud mouth. You laugh loud. You talk loud. You sing loud (And beautifully). You walk into a room and and your presence can’t help but be felt.

I will probably say this until you are 40 years old, “I was never ready for how quickly you would grow up”. It has been a joy watching you blossom into your own. Watching you find your own feet. Making your own big decisions. Believing in yourself. Going after the things you want. Being brave and not being afraid to try again and again.

Coolest kids around the block

You are my partner in all things crazy and all things random. My plus 1 at weddings. You are my favourite person to be silly with. I am sure when both of us are home, they take pain killers to get through the day from the noise we make 🙂 Can’t wait for you to get your passport so we can do the damn things around the world.

My soul sees your soul

You are one of the greatest gifts in my life. The best little sister I could have asked for. Keep on shining my not so little bambino. Go against the grain. Stand in the light and be seen as you are. Tiz fayini them 🙂 🙂 🙂

Do they know? Should we tell them, about the magic? The stardust magic. The joy. The awesomeness you ooze. The gigantic dreams you carry in that little yet spacious heart of yours. Should we tell them about the stars? The ones that glitter from the depths of your being? About the light that is yours. The light that is you. About the wonder you are. Or maybe we should at least tell them how you are glazed in African butter, soaked in melanin and that you are yours. before you are anyone else’s.

Akhona Memela – Makunyiwe Once!!!

Lalela phela ngoba I LOVE YOU so so so much!!!

Here’s to many more

Just in case you haven’t figured it out yet, you are one of my absolute favourites.

Thandoh Msimango until further notice…

Yes, you and your soft heart. You and your too accommodating self. You and your one pack. You and that wig of yours I can somehow never wrap my mind around. You and your contagious laughter.  You and your obsession with chopping and changing your hair every three months. You and your wide feet. You and your resolve to be a world changer and influence the spaces around you. You and that brave heart of yours. Following your passion and stepping into your purpose is no child’s play.

I LOVE YOU friend. I  appreciate you. I wouldn’t trade you for anything, except maybe for a good glass of gin and tonic.

Friend you are a beautiful soul. An exceptional human-being.

Here’s to many more years of randomly stopping on the side of the road to dance into the sunset. Here’s to many more trips to the best wine farms. Here’s to more moments of uncontrollable laughter. Here’s to a lifetime of sisterhood, showing up for one another and doing this friendship thing the best way we know how.

Making Memories

Lavender my lavisto!!!

You are the only friend who writes me love letters…or at least, who used to write me love letters. You are the only friend who tells me she loves me until I get annoyed 🙂 You force me to take photo’s with you because “We need to make memories Ntombi” 🙂

Nike NTC Dec 2017-025

I love how you have just slotted yourself into my life, made room for yourself and found a spot in my heart without needing my permission. I love how you naturally love my people as if they are your people. How you make my friends your friends. I love how you invite yourself to events. But also how you are ever ready to go with me to all these random events I like.

More than anything else, I love how you believe in yourself. How you choose to always see the light before the greyness of any situation. I love how you speak life into yourself. I love that you are always willing to put yourself out there and try out new things. You show up. You make an effort. You fall. You getup. Lavender, you live. You love. You pray.

Stay planted in faith. Remain rooted and grounded in truth. Whatever your truth is; as and when it changes. Remember that you are here to be light. Keep giving yourself permission to shine. To step up and step into the greatness within you.

I love you. I really really do. Thank you for having been a part of my life journey.
